Beijing Fengtai Railway Station started renovation recently and that is estimated to be completed by the end of 2020.
According to a planning, the new Fengtai Railway Station that takes up the area from Qianniwa Road in the north to Kandan Road in the south, is designed with 12 platforms and 22 arrival-departure tracks, equal in size to Beijing South Railway Station’s 13 platforms and 24 arrival-departure tracks.
It will mainly conduct the operation of passenger train routes, including Beijing-Guangzhou(both general and high speed railways), Fengtai-Shacheng, Huailai County, Beijing-Yuanping, Beijing-Kowloon, Hong Kong, Beijing-Shanghai(general speed railway), and Beijing-Shijiazhuang intercity line.
In terms of the design of station, the new Fengtai Railway Station is the first one in the world to adopt an elevated layout with layered car yards : the car yard for general speed railway is on the ground floor, passenger hall on the second floor and the car yard for high speed railway on the third floor.
Beijing Fengtai Railway Station, built in 1895, has a long history of over 100 years. For renovation, it announced to close down all passenger service on June 20, 2010.
